Abrasion that occurred on the coast of Amurang, South Minahasa Regency knocked down dozens of houses on the seafront, Wednesday (15/6/2022) afternoon. Amurang is about 57 kilometers from Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia.
Based on data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency, at least 15 houses and lodging buildings collapsed into the sea due to the abrasion. The abrasion also eroded the road along the coast.
Regional Disaster Management Agency Officer, Andre Lombogia explained the chronology of the abrasion disaster that occurred on the Amurang coast. The incident, he said, began at around 14:00 WITA.
Andre added that this coastal abrasion disaster caused damage to 15 houses and the vehicle parking area of two lodging places was damaged on the coast of the boulevard road, Bitung and Uwuran Satu villages.
“Earlier, the weather was moderate rain, normally there were no signs. Around 13.00-14.00 WITA, suddenly, the witness said, there was a sound like a broken plate and it started to abrasion. If people here say the sound of an earthquake,” said Andre as reported by CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday night.
He explained that the abrasion process took about 60 minutes, so residents still had time to evacuate independently. He also ensured that there were no casualties in this disaster, because abrasion did not occur instantaneously.
The 15 residents of the affected houses are currently evacuating at the emergency response posts provided. A number of residents living in coastal areas are also advised to be vigilant because it is feared that there will be further abrasion disasters.
Furthermore, Rapid Reaction Team still conducted a rapid assessment, while the South Minahasa Regency Government visited the scene.
“We are still assessing the incident, because the command post is limited and small, 15 of the houses affected have fled, they were went to their relatives' houses,” he said. ***
