The National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) released the latest data on fatalities and injuries from the Cianjur Earthquake.

Until Tuesday (22/11/2022) at 09.55 AM, the number of victims who died reached 103 peoples.

While 31 other peoples were declared missing and are still in the search process for the joint SAR team.

In addition, 377 people were injured in Cianjur Regency, 1 person was moderately injured in Bandung Regency, 1 person was seriously injured and 9 people were slightly injured in Sukabumi Regency, and 2 people were slightly injured in Bogor Regency.

It is estimated that the number of victims will increase because currently the joint SAR team is conducting a large-scale search operation.

Head of BNPB’s Communication, Information and Data Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the majority of residents died as a result of being crushed by the rubble of a collapsed building when the incident occurred.

“On Tuesday (22/11/2022) at 09.55 WIB, it was reported that 103 people had died,” Abdul Muhari said in a press release, Tuesday (22/11/2022).

Meanwhile, the displaced residents currently reach 7,060 people spread across several points.

“In addition, 8 families fled in Sukabumi Regency and 4 people fled in Bogor Regency,” said Abdul.

For infrastructure damage, it was recorded that 3,075 houses were lightly damaged, 33 houses were moderately damaged, and 59 houses were heavily damaged.

“The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is still collecting data regarding the number of victims, infrastructure damage, evacuation locations and urgent needs,” he said.

118 Aftershocks

BNPB also recorded 118 aftershocks with the smallest magnitude of M1.5 and the largest of M4.2 as of Tuesday (22/11/2022) at 06.30 WIB.

In response to this incident, the Cianjur Regency Government has issued a Decree on the Emergency Response Status for the Earthquake Disaster in Cianjur Regency for 30 days starting November 21 2022 to December 20 2022 which was signed directly by the Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman.

BNPB has also provided Rp1.5 billion in ready-to-use funds (DSP) and emergency logistics assistance worth Rp. 500 million.

“Assistance was provided to the Cianjur Regency Government during a field visit by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Deputy Commission VIII DPR RI, Head of BNPB, and Head of BMKG,” said Abdul.

Furthermore, he appealed to residents in Cianjur Regency and its surroundings to evacuate if they feel their homes are still not safe from the danger of an earthquake.

“Residents are advised to remain vigilant about the potential for aftershocks. Residents are also asked to follow and get information from the official channels of BNPB, BMKG, BPBD and local government,” said Abdul. ***
