A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the province of West Java this afternoon. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said, with the impact felt in the capital Jakarta.

According to BMKG, the earthquake struck at 1:21pm with its epicenter pinpointed to 10 kilometers southwest of Cianjur Regency in West Java. The agency did not issue a tsunami warning.

Five aftershocks have reportedly followed as of this article’s publication, with early reports of widespread damage to buildings and vehicles. There have been no reports of human casualties thus far.

In Jakarta, located some 100 kilometers northwest of Cianjur, residents took to social media to say they experienced some minor to intense shaking when the quake struck.
