The armed civilian group calling itself the East Indonesia Mujahiddin has now split into two groups. The first group was led by Ali Kalora and the second group was led by Qatar alias Farel alias Anas.
As is known from 9 MIT members, there are 4 Poso people namely Ali Kalora, Rukli, Suhardin alias Hasan Pranata and Ahmad Gazali alias Ahmad Panjang.
Meanwhile 4 other people namely Qatar alias Farel alias Anas, Abu Alim alias Ambo, Nae alias Galuh and Askar alias Jaid alias Pak Guru come from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara. Meanwhile, Jaka Ramadan alias Ikrima alias Rama comes from Banten.
Intelligence sources confirmed information that four Poso-based MIT members would surrender.
“Ali Kalora has been shot. Ahmad Gazali and Rukli are reported to be sick. They are about to go down to the village, want to give up. So those who want to surrender are Ali Kalora, Rukli, Suhardin alias Hasan Pranata and Ahmad Gazali alias Ahmad Panjang, but they are afraid of Qatar,” said the source.
Reportedly Qatar threatened them. “If you want to go down to your village to surrender, I will kill your family,” said the source, repeated Qatar’s said.
The man from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara is known to be fierce. He started joining MIT since he was still led by Santoso alias Abu Wardah, who was shot dead by the Tinombala Operations Task Force on July 18 2016. He was active in tadrib asykari or militia training held by Santoso. He is slippery like an eel. He was hunted many times, he kept on escaping. He is the main executor of number of attacks.
Two months ago, when Ali Kalora declared that he would surrender, it was Qatar who got in the way of his wish. Ali was then shot on March 22, 2021 in cash.
Terrorism observer and Director of the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict (IPAC) Sidney Jones even said that Qatar was more influential than Ali Kalora in MIT.
“Don’t look at Ali Kalora as the only leader in the group after Santoso died. There is a second leader, Qatar from Bima, who has joined since Santoso was still alive. He is more charismatic than Ali Kalora, ”said Sidney, who has lived in Indonesia for a long time. ***
