A member of the Papua Regional Police Mobile Brigade was attacked and killed by the West Papuan Armed Civilian Group.
Cited by Antara, the incident of assault and mistreatment occurred on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at around 17.00 WIT in Napua District, Jayawijaya (Wamena) Regency, Papua.
The Papuan Police Chief Inspector General of Police Mathius Fakhiri, in his official statement in Jayapura, Sunday, June 19, 2022 yesterday confirmed the incident.
Mathius said there were indications that the perpetrators of the attack that killed Brimob members in Napua, Jayawijaya Regency, were members of the West Papuan Armed Civilian Group – KKB.
“One of our Brimob members was attacked by an unknown group of people in Napua, Jayawijaya Regency. There are indications that the perpetrators of the attack were members of the KKB,” said Mathius, quoted from Antara, Monday, June 20, 2022.
“But to be sure, we are still investigating,” he added.
He also revealed that the member of the Papuan Police Mobile Brigade who died being abused by the KKB was Brigadier Diego Rumaropen.
Apart from attacking and abusing Bripda Diego, explained Mathius, KKB also managed to get away with two organic firearms.
Two organic firearms from the National Police which were taken away by the perpetrators were shoulder guns of the AK101 and SSG08 types.
According to the reports received, Mathius explained, the incident began when two Brimob members, namely AKP R and Bripda Diego Rumaropen, went to Napua to shoot a cow after being called and asked for help by a resident, he said.
He said that while in Napua, Brimob members shot a cow and after that AKP R entrusted his firearm to Brigadier Diego Diego.
“Brigadier Diego Rumaropen died caused by his injuries,” he said.
In addition, said Mathius, the Papua Regional Police on Sunday, June 19, 2022, had sent Provost to Wamena to examine Brimob members regarding the death of Bripda Diego Rumaropen and the disappearance of two Police organic firearms.
