Thousands of Indonesian students and workers protested on Thursday against a new law they say will cripple labour rights and harm the environment, with some clashing with police.
Police Departement in Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi Province, blocked streets leading to the local parliament building, Police Office and Central Sulawesi Governor Hall.
On Thursday, October 8, 2020 more than 3,000 protesters, including workers and high school and university students, attempted to reach the heavily guarded parliament building.
Protesters trying to break off the barbed wire barricade used to block the streets and pelted police with rocks. Riot police responded by firing tear gas and water cannons.
Currently, about 93 students have been arrested by the police and are being examined by investigators. ***
